The Top 5 Most Expensive Cars Owned By Michael Jackson

The King of Pop is passionate about Euro luxury cars and limousines. The most expensive car in Michael Jackson’s garage is a 1999 Rolls-Royce Seraph stretch limousine with a custom interior. According to Motor 1, Jackson’s Rolls-Royce limo has a lavish 24-carat gold interior inspired by the Palace of Versailles. Under the hood is a 5.4-liter aluminum V12 engine with 322 horsepower. It was supposed to sell at auction in 2009 (a few months before Jackson’s death), but disputes prevented the auction from continuing despite the limo’s $140,000 to $160,000 starting bid (per TFL Car).

When you think about it, it’s tricky to name a cash figure on a plush Rolls-Royce limousine (with a personally commissioned, custom gold interior) once owned by the King of Pop. He probably paid upwards of $200,000 for the limo in 1999, but experts say the car is virtually priceless. Next on the list of Michael Jackson’s costliest vehicles is a 2003 Rolls-Royce Phantom VII, which is one of the 15 best Rolls-Royce models ever made. The Phantom starts at around $400,000 when bought new.

Lisa Marie married Michael Jackson in 1994, just 20 days after finalizing her divorce from her first husband, Danny Keogh.

Jackson and Presley divorced in 1996. In an interview with Rolling Stone in 2013, Presley opened up about her marriage with Jackson.

“I got into this whole, ‘I’m going to save you’ thing,” she said.

“I thought all that stuff he was doing — philanthropy and the children thing and all this stuff — was awesome and maybe we could save the world together,” Presley continued.

“OK. Hello. I was delusionary. I got some romantic idea in my head that I could save him and we could save the world.”

Speaking on how she perceived her reputation to have been harmed following her marriage to Jackson, she said, “All I did get out of it was a s—storm. And I got out of it.”

“Now people go, ‘You seem somewhat sane, you seem pretty together — what the hell was that all about?’” Presley said. “It put a stigma on me. A ‘what the hell was she thinking?’ stigma.”

Presley and Jackson remained friends up until his death in 2009.

She married her third husband, actor Nicolas Cage, in 2002. The “National Treasure” star filed for divorce three months later, and the separation was finalized after 107 days of marriage.

Cage is notoriously known for being a huge Elvis fan. Reports revealed that while the actor was still married to Lisa Marie, he was allowed inside Elvis’ bedroom at the Graceland estate, which is strictly off limits to anyone who is not a family member.

In an interview with the late Barbra Walters, Cage discussed his marriage to Presley and said, “Oftentimes when you have two people who are very strong and their own personalities and rather intense, sometimes you can have a hard time meshing.”

Cage had conflicting feelings when it came to their split.

“It’s sad, and I miss her every day,” he said, adding, “and sometimes I wish we couldn’t have rushed the marriage, and sometimes I regret rushing the divorce, but it just seemed like it wasn’t going to change.”

In past interviews, Presley was more outspoken on the couple’s split.

“The most upsetting thing was when he called to say he was sorry, wish he hadn’t done it, things like that,” Presley told ABC in 2003. “You can’t have a temper tantrum and then call me four days later and expect, you know, everything to be fine again . . . so, it was like that. . . . We were both like two twelve-year-olds in a sandbox, basically.”

Other stars who have spoken out following Presley’s death include Tom Hanks, John Travolta, Leah Remini and more.

Vincent Price Chose $20,000 Dollars Over a Percentage of Michael Jackson’s THRILLER Album Proceeds — GeekTyrant

Michael Jackson’s Thriller was my favorite album when I was a kid, and the actual song “Thriller” was just so freakin’ cool! I listened to that song over and over again on my parent’s record player. My favorite part of the song was Vincent Price’s rap. That voice is seared into my brain and that album was my introduction to the legendary actor.

Vincent Price was recommended for the party by Peggy Lipton, who was then married to Jackson’s producer Quincy Jones and knew him.

Price accepted the part and was offered two payment options. He told Johnny Carson that he was offered a one-time $20,000 fee or a percentage of the album proceeds. He ended up choosing the $20,000 which is absolutely crazy and Thriller sold over 110 million copies worldwide!

Price would have made so much more money had he chosen the album earnings. When Carson suggested that Price could have done a lot better if he made the other choice, he laughed and said “How well I know!”

After Price was locked in and the song’s recording session scheduled, the rap still needed to be written. Rod Temperton wrote the lyrics to the rap in a taxi on the way to the studio.

It’s reported that a recording engineer noted that while “Price was delighted to contribute his vocals to the song, he was startled by the headphones when he arrived at the studio, never having used them before. When he reluctantly put them on, he jumped out of his chair in surprise upon hearing the funky music track he was to speak over. He ultimately needed a little help with his cues to speak over the music, but he ended up nailing it.”

Price recorded his portion of the song in only two takes. Quincy Jones praised Price’s work and accuracy as “fabulous.” You can listen to the recording session for the rap below! You can also listen to our Secret Level podcast where we talk about the making of the music video here!

Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean has a seriously dark meaning behind it that haunted him until he died

It’s safe to say most music fans will know that Billie Jean was not Michael Jackson’s lover, but she was inspired by some true and disturbing events.

Jackson released the track in 1982, after he’d moved on from the Jackson 5 to continue a solo career. It featured on his sixth studio album, Thriller, and earned the singer two Grammy awards and an American Music Award.

While I’m sure he welcomed the recognition, Jackson probably could have lived without the inspiration behind Billie Jean, a woman he has confirmed was based on people he and his brothers were ‘plagued with over the years’ after they rose to fame.

In his 1988 autobiography, Moonwalk, Jackson said: “There never was a real Billie Jean. The girl in the song is a composite of people my brothers have been plagued with over the years. I could never understand how these girls could say they were carrying someone’s child when it wasn’t true.”

Jackson’s explanation for the track is reflected in the lyrics, which read: “Billie Jean is not my lover / She’s just a girl who claims that I am the one / But the kid is not my son.”

However, in 1991, Jackson’s biographer J. Randy Taraborrelli wrote in his book The Magic and the Madness that Jackson had received letters 10 years prior from a woman who claimed he was the father of her twins, which could inform Jackson’s reference to women claiming to be carrying his children.

Whether that woman was the inspiration or not, the King of Pop was adored by fans across the globe and it’s clear some went further than others.

One fan, who identified herself as Billie Jean Jackson, is said to have believed that Jackson had asked her to marry him, and that he was the father of her children.

“He loves me dearly,” Billie Jean said, before claiming that the lyric ‘Billie Jean is not my lover’ actually indicated the opposite; that Jackson was her lover.

When her fascination with Jackson became too much, Billie Jean was hit with a court order to stay away from the pop star. She had been found to have sent her medical bills to Jackson, and even encouraged a boutique to charge him for her wedding dress.

Billie Jean was arrested and jailed for two years after violating the court order, but she continued to express hopes that Jackson would come and get her out from behind bars, telling him: “I miss you.”

The fan is said to have continued to harass Jackson until his death in 2009.

A new biography about Elizabeth Taylor reveals new details about her unlikely, close friendship with fellow superstar Michael Jackson (pictured together in 1997)

New Elizabeth Taylor biography reveals her posthumous letter to Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson’s untimely death came as a ‘high pitched scream in the heart’ for Elizabeth Taylor, who sobbed hysterically ‘for hours’ after learning her close friend was gone, according to a new book.

The late actress poured her heart out to the King of Pop in a heart-wrenching letter she wrote after his 2009 overdose, which is revealed for the first time in new biography, Elizabeth Taylor: The Grit and Glamour of an Icon, by Kate Andersen Brower, published December 6.

In the emotional posthumous note, the Hollywood icon said Jackson was in her ‘thoughts and heart continuously’ and that she was in ‘pain’ over his loss.

The poignant message marked the end of an unlikely friendship between two child stars that lasted 25 years.

Taylor and Jackson – who were 26 years apart in age – were almost as famous for their tight bond as they were for their glittering careers.

The book reveals new details of their troubled lives behind closed doors, such as how Jackson used to ‘shoot up’ in Taylor’s bathroom, leaving her housekeeper horrified at the sight of a used syringe.

At the same time, the actress herself was struggling with her own addiction to pills, as previously reported by DailyMail.com

Taylor even staged an intervention in 1993 to help Jackson beat his drug demons, meeting him off the stage at a performance in Mexico City and using a decoy to smuggle him away.

She also stood by him during his child sex abuse allegations and said that she remained ‘fiercely loyal’ to him at all times.

Friends of the pair, such as singer Lionel Richie believed Taylor was Jackson’s ‘safety blanket’ – and without her in his life he could have died much sooner.

Taylor and Jackson bonded over being thrust into the spotlight as children, with Jackson becoming a star at the tender age of eight with the Jackson 5 and Taylor making her on screen debut at age 12 with 1944 film National Velvet.

Both also had domineering fathers who were physically abusive and pushed them to become celebrities.

The two met in 1984, at a time when Taylor’s storied career was on the decline while Jackson’s star was rising, and the pair bonded over the death of actor Richard Burton, who Taylor was twice married to.

Taylor spoke fondly of Jackson in the public eye and once spoke of their bond saying: ‘There is something in him that is so dear and childlike – not childish, but childlike – that we both have and identify with.’

Charlie Nicholson, who worked for Taylor in the late 1980s, recalled seeing the unlikely pair at a dining table together where Elizabeth was hand-feeding Jackson a salad.

‘She was lovingly feeding him, like a mother would feed a toddler,’ he said.

Mark Harmon also recalled one bizarre moment when he spotted Taylor and Jackson at a dinner in 1990 where the singer was hiding under the table. When they asked what he was doing, he said nothing, according to the author.

Mutual friend Lionel Richie, who was interviewed for the book, revealed that when he once asked Jackson why his friendship with Taylor was so important to him he had replied: ‘She understands.’

‘I can understand what a safety blanket she was. But you couldn’t be there all the time,’ Richie said.

‘As long as he was able to be near her or able to talk to her, that’s one thing, but as time went on he got so big that it was almost kind of impossible to counsel him at a certain point.

‘There was a danger to his innocence, there was also a sweetness to his innocence … without her in his life it might have been a disaster much sooner than it was.’

Jackson was such good friends with La Liz that he let her use his Neverland ranch as the venue for her eighth and final wedding in 1991 to husband Larry Fortensky, a construction worker who was 20 years her junior.

He even walked Taylor down the aisle and, in front of celebrity guests like Nancy Reagan and Brooke Shields, posed as the ‘father of the bride.’

The ranch was where Taylor and Jackson would ‘go on picnics together, two broken adults trying to recapture their stolen childhoods,’ according to Andersen.

Jackson once said about their friendship: ‘We try to escape and fantasize. I can really relax with her because we’ve lived the same life and experienced the same thing’.

Their shared experience of the ‘great tragedy of childhood stars’ meant they liked the same things: circuses, amusement parks and animals.

Andersen characterizes Jackson and Taylor’s friendship as one of the ‘closest celebrity relationships’ that included spontaneous visits, such as the time when the pop star asked to come around to the actress’s house – with his chimpanzee.

The book reveals that during the early days of their friendship, MJ had asked to come around to Taylor's house - with his chimpanzee, Bubbles

Jackson turned up at her door holding hands with Bubbles, his infamous pet chimp, and they were friends ever since.

Taylor once said that she ‘knew what it was like to be used by your family for money and fame.’

When a journalist suggested that Jackson and Taylor were like Peter Pan and Wendy, the pop star said: ‘But Elizabeth is also like a mother – and more than that. She’s a friend. She’s Mother Teresa, Princess Diana, the Queen of England, and Wendy.’

Taylor’s protective feelings towards Jackson were displayed in 1993 when he was indicted on 10 child sex abuse charges, which were later dismissed after a high profile and controversial trial.

With his career in grave peril, Taylor flew to Mexico City to whisk him away to get treatment for his painkiller addiction.

Andersen writes that she ‘escorted him to his private dressing room and convinced him to get treatment.’

Taylor arranged a plane for Jackson but wouldn’t even tell the pilot where they were going, such was the secrecy.

Once they arrived, a security guard who was about Jackson’s height served as a Jackson’s decoy, dressing in a robe and a hood, returning to his hotel to fool the press.

A police escort even followed her car while Taylor put Jackson on a plane and told him: ‘I am getting you out of here’ into a rehab facility.

According to Jackson’s lawyer at the time, Bertram Fields, his painkiller addiction was becoming ‘all-consuming.’

He said: ‘He was barely able to function adequately on an intellectual level. I’m not going to talk about his individual symptoms, but they were manifest.’

But, Andersen writes: ‘Members of Jackson’s family were furious at Elizabeth because they did not want him admitting to his addiction.

‘Jackson’s life was so carefully controlled that Jackson had to ask his head of security for his own passport,’ the book states.

‘Like Elizabeth’s experience at Betty Ford, institutional life was humbling for Michael, who learned how to use a vacuum cleaner and how to perform other mundane tasks in treatment.

‘But for all the planning and subterfuge, nothing came of Jackson’s attempt to stop using.’

At the time Taylor was struggling with her own addictions as well, which her longtime housekeeper Bernadeta Bajda said was difficult to witness.

She said: ‘I cried all the time when she asked for pills. Sometimes she wanted to have alcohol. Someone told us not to give her alcohol, so we hid it very high and she couldn’t find it.

‘She was desperate. She was searching, searching, but she didn’t find it. Soon enough she did find the champagne.’

Bajda also revealed the moment she discovered a ‘terrible secret’ at Taylor’s home when Jackson was visiting.

She said: ‘Michael was in Ms. Taylor’s restroom and a moment later he ran downstairs.

‘I was in the bedroom and he didn’t see me, he ran past me. I went into the bathroom and I found an obviously used syringe on the floor.

‘But I didn’t touch it, I was scared to death. Then I heard him coming upstairs to pick it up so I hid and he took it and ran back downstairs. That moment to me was so, so sad.’

Tragedy would eventually strike and claim the life of the King of Pop in 2009, when Jackson took a fatal dose of Propoful at his home in Los Angeles administered by his personal doctor, Conrad Murray.

When Taylor learned Jackson had been taken to hospital she began to call his assistants in a panic. She eventually got a hold of one of them who broke the news to her.

Taylor became ‘hysterical’ and screamed: ‘No! No!’, and had to be consoled and held for hours while she sobbed, according the book.

She also decided against attending his star-studded public memorial at the Staples Center as she didn’t want to ‘put her grief on display’ because Jackson wouldn’t have waned her to do.

She did however attend a private funeral months later and tearfully said her goodbyes.

Such was Taylor’s grief for Jackson after he died that she wrote him a heartbreaking posthumous letter.

She wrote: ‘My Beloved Michael, I hope you remember how much I love you – and miss you.

‘You are in my thoughts and heart continuously. It is like a high-pitched scream is in my heart. I mourn you. I am in pain. When will I ever see you again? I love you too much and always will. Yours, Elizabeth.’

Shenseea Says “Bob Marley Is Bigger Than Michael Jackson”

Shenseea has sparked a raging debate on social media, after she posted a tweet on Thursday declaring that Reggae legend “Bob Marley is bigger” than pop icon Michael Jackson.

Although the Lick artiste did not elaborate further, or attempt to qualify her comment, she has been feeling some heat from American fans of the late Thriller megastar, but has also attracted the support of Soca singer Denise Belfon and Born Jamericans’ Edley Shine.

“They can’t fathom the heights of where @shenseea is really coming from,” Denise Belfon noted, in response to the tweet, while Edley noted: “A ring born Jamaican should always feel this way; f what anybody think!”

Over on the Shade Room’s Instagram page, much of the comments were dismissive of Shenseea, with many people, including Jamaicans, declaring that the two men ought not to be compared, as they were in different categories and ought to be left to “Rest In Peace” while others declared that the Lick singer was simply seeking “a viral moment” as Jackson had more song sales and so was “bigger.”

shenseea-2
Shenseea

“I don’t like the fact that we like to compare people and hate it when we are compared with others. They’re two legends that have created so much impact that’s transcends across different countries and cultures. Even after their deaths they are both influential and are most talked about musician… I am sure these two legends wouldn’t appreciate the comparison….MJ and Bob will forever be legendary. One love ❤,” jamaican_kerrylee said.

“I’m Jamaican and I can safely say it’s pretty much equal. They are (not were) Global superstars whose music is still felt today! No need to pit them or countries nor cultures against one another. Shenseea really moves like one agent kmt,” reinen0ire said.

One commenter, mbodimentmemoir described the tweet as “a weird and random comparison”, while briannaangelique added: “Apples and oranges, let them GOATs rest”.

There were, however, several like frozone.datman, who sided with Shenseea, positing that unlike Bob, nobody was aspiring to be like Michael Jackson, in terms of dress or mannerisms, except during seasons like Halloween, and purely for gimmickry.

“She ain’t lie! Everyone wants to be a Rasta and follow… because of Bob.   I don’t see no one wanting to be a moonwalker and love that life because of Michael. Michael inspired music; Bob inspired a lifestyle… Let’s talk about the impact each had on people. Not record sales not music. Thriller is a big deal when Halloween comes around, but Bob’s song hit all day bro. But as I said let’s talk about influential life impact,” he noted.

The New York Times declaration of Bob Marley as “the most influential artiste of the latter half of the twentieth century”; Time magazine’s naming of his Exodus album as the 20th Century’s most important album in 1999 and the BBC’s declaration of the Gong’s One Love, as the Song of the Century, were among the accolades Reggae fans presented as “proof” that the Jamaican was ahead of Jackson by far.

Other commenters pointed out that Jackson’s name was not revered but that Marley was the one whose name is venerated globally, despite the Beat It artist selling more records, particularly in his home country.

“This is an American theory. In most if not all European countries Bob Marley music is being streamed daily and is kept alive various ways but you’re in tune to America not the world,” k.adejah_ argued, while attathon added: “You know how many mind Bob set free from slave mentality, how many revolutions he started across the fcking world while mj was busy trying to look like a white man fck you and your puppet”.

Another commenter yurpp063 pointed out that nobody was making any effort to keep Jackson’s name alive, and that Marley had left an unmatched legacy, which had nothing to do with sales or money.

“This the first time I heard Mike name since he been dead.  I see and hear Bob Marley daily.  Mike was so big den why ain’t nobody still tryna keep his name alive WITH ANYTHING?” he questioned.

Over on DJ Akademiks’ Instagram page, he shared Shenseea’s post and asked: “Is this facxxx or fiction”.

The comments were polarized just the same, but with several jokes thrown in at Shenseea’s expense.

“She just wanna be starting something 🥱,” jaywzythealien quipped, while daermani added: “Twitter gave too many people free speech”.

As the debate raged, some commenters argued that it was difficult to come to a conclusion, as both men had made an impact in their own way.

“It’s close. I can guarantee there are more pictures of Bob Marley hanging up than Michael Jackson. But that’s a hard one to discuss,” vtevh_takeoff stated., while shaydominus noted: “Bob Marley is more influential. Michael had more fame. During their time they were possibly equal… Reggae is the most influential piece of music alive today due to the genres it’s birthed. Bob and Michael convo is like biggie and pac. Whitney and Mariah. Jay z and nas…”

Another commenter, x_blake posited that Jackson was only bigger in his home country while Marley had made “a whole religion (Rastifari) popular and international”.

“Go to Africa, South America: he’s the de facto example of blacks in the new world… His message has spread everywhere to when you hear 1 love you know exactly who they are talking about. Maybe MJ is bigger in the U.S but the U.S only,” he said.

On Shenseea’s Twitter page, Basil Proudly noted that unlike Jackson, Marley was still being heaped with accolades, decades after his passing.

“Influence is measured in different ways.  There’s a hairstyle called “Bob Marley”’ there’s no such hair style as “Michael Jackson”.  There’s a day called “Marley Night”, no such day as “Jackson Night”.  I can also tell you that Marley’s best track is more popular than MJ best track,” he stated.

SelectaLeon, for his part, sought to highlight Marley’s post-humous accolades by Time and BBC, which he said made him greater than Jackson.

This resulted in a lengthy exchange with a Jackson supporter, who replied that neither of the mentioned songs came close to the sales of Jackson’s Thriller, which is the world’s biggest-selling album of all time “certified three times Diamond and 7 times platinum in US sales alone & 360 million sold worldwide”.

Not to be outdone, SelectaLeon shot back: “You know that Toyota sells more than Bugatti, right?”

He then added: “What impact did MJ have in Africa? Imagine a man from a small island that wasn’t even 2M people at the time. Making such an impact around the world. MJ impact is based on dancing and videos. Bob made political impact. MJ is just entertainment production”.

“Nuff a Unnu Naah Wul a Proppa Meds and really a Look into it. Bob’s Music Can Fan the Flames of a Revolution. Uplift the Oppressed and give them the energy to keep fighting. Much as I Rate Michael Music his music only gonna make you kick up your foot and Moon Walk. Bob Marley Music is a whole Different Level a Consciousnes,” shortboss11234 stated.

Others argued that although Jackson was indeed, the best entertainer of all time, he was not as influential as Marley, whose music inspired the liberation of Zimbabwe, nor were his songs in the same category, since the Jamaican’s were “global anthems” and “message music for social Justice and spirituality”.

“Bob Marley has always been probably one of the most influential people in the world.   Even on his best day with his best tracks, Michael could never touch Bob’s revolutionary tracks like Redemption Song or Get Up Stand Up. … A Rastafarian man who came all the way from the ghetto of a small island with little opportunities to create music that would influence the world,” she noted.

Others noted that it was Americans’ insular way of thinking why they believed Jackson was the bigger artiste, simply because of sales.

“He (Marley) is …way way waaaaaaaay bigger…Americans seem to forget that they are not even 5% of the world,” hullgraff said, while eric.genius, in noting that Marley’s legacy lives on through his seven sons added: “Simple true because I heard a bob song now and then on our airwaves in the uk. I cannot recall a jacko for real I believe that. His sons also help enlighten the name.”

Former MICHAEL JACKSON Guitarist JENNIFER BATTEN Reflects On Trying To Audition For OZZY OSBOURNE - "I Know My Audio Got To The Right People, And I Didn't Even Get A Chance"

Ultimate Guitar’s David Slavković recebtly got the chance to speak to guitarist Jennifer Batten – known for her work with Michael Jackson – about her career. An excerpt from the interview is available below.

UG: The landscape of the music industry today is a bit different back compared to when you were in Michael Jackson’s band. And, of course, it was a man’s game, and you also talked about some of the challenges that you faced back in the day. What was, if you could single out one biggest challenge in this regard, what would it be? The one that you faced as a female guitar player back in the day?

Jennifer Batten: “I’ve gotten comments over the years. A lot of guys will say you, ‘You play pretty good for a girl.’ Or, the best one, this guy said, ‘You play just like a boy.’ What does that even mean? Yeah, millions of male guitar players, some are great and some suck, so it has no meaning. But you kind of have to look at the energy that’s coming at you, and he meant it as a positive thing.

I remember, specifically, before the Jackson thing came up, I was trying to get an audition with Ozzy Osbourne. And they were of auditioning everybody in LA at the time. And I know my audio got to the right people, and I didn’t even get a chance. Looking back, it’s a super macho gig, and they probably wouldn’t even consider a female for that. Having said that, if it was the same thing today, I think it’d be a whole different story. You get somebody like Nili Brosh – you could slay in a gig like that. She has incredible chops, great tone, great attitude, everything. It’s a different world. It is a very different world now.”
